Napoleon is my final third year degree submission at the University of Hertfordshire's Model Design and SFX programme.
He was created as a puppet/costume hybrid representing Napoleon from Animal Farm. The brief was to creat a conceptual piece that would reflect a possible way in which the book could be adapted into a theatrical production. The head was the main body of the project, but I also made the tail, with the idea that two actors would stand between them and provide the legs.
He was sculpted in clay first (he is 2x lifesize, and about 4 foot high - he weighed 90 kilos in clay), then moulded in silicon and fibreglass. Then I took a fibreglass cast from that mould which I cleaned up, then painted with acrylics, then an airbrush. His facial stripe and ear tufts were added by gluing individual horse hairs directly onto the fibreglass.
He is based on a Berkshire boar, the breed of pig Napoleon was listed as in Orwell's original text. Sadly, the breed is now nearing extinction, and currently listed 'vunerable', along with the majority of old English pig breeds.

This is so.. darned beautiful! Love the book Animal Farm and the animated movie they made for it. This is so lifelike and detailed, it's gorgeous! This definitely needs much much more attention... I can't believe how much detail this has. Excellent job ^^
